How to Get Fired! And Other Great Job Advice How to Get Yourself Fired Comedian offers students ‘advice’ on “How to Get Fired!” Jeff Havens on How to Get Fired! in any Economy Sour economy is fodder for Madison comedian and author AOL.com - July 21, 2010 From BookReview.com - February 12, 2010 From BookReviewers.org - February 15, 2010 From Suzie Wiley, TV Personality WYAM TV 51 Wall Street Journal Radio - 5/11/10 Jeff On Nationally Syndicated Dresser After Dark Jeff On KUSA, February 2010 Jeff On XZone Radio Jeff On WJBC Talk Radio Jeff On WBNQ - Hit Station Jeff On KXLO - Variety Station Eye on the Nation - Mike Kara Show (Part 1 of 3) Lecture Teaches College Students How to Get Fired! Veteran comedian and corporate speaker Jeff Havens has created “How to Get Fired!,” a comedic lecture designed to help college students succeed in the working world by encouraging them to indulge in the behaviors that most commonly cost workers their jobs. An accompanying book, How to Get Fired!: The New Employee’s Guide to Perpetual Unemployment, is due in bookstores in April 2010. “The lecture and book are unique because I approach these very serious subjects in an entertaining way,” says Havens, 31, who graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University. “College students don’t want to be lectured to, even when the information is important. That’s why ‘How to Get Fired!’ feels more like a comedy show than a lecture. It’s comedy with a purpose.” “How to Get Fired!” is organized around the “Four Pillars of Poverty” – fake your résumé, establish your incompetence, destroy your work ethic, and alienate your co-workers. Replete with satire, “Fired!” ‘encourages’ students to treat their job like college, gossip about colleagues on Facebook and Twitter, surf the Internet, dress unprofessionally, and blame others for their own failings. Both lecture and book end with serious discussions on how college graduates can successfully transition into the working world – not only how to get a job but also how to keep one. “The working world does not function the way that college does,” Havens says. “It’s not better or worse, just different. And for students who expect the professional world to cater to them the way college does, the culture shock can be severe. ‘How to Get Fired!’ is designed to make that transition as easy as possible.” David Nevins, Leadership Development Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, declares, “Jeff addresses how to keep a job in today’s downsizing environment by weaving humor and a much-appreciated dose of sarcasm that students ‘get.’ He’s serious about his presentation without taking himself too seriously.” Havens, who still tours as a stand-up comedian and is scheduled to make his first Comedy Central appearance later in 2010, enjoys the dual nature of “How to Get Fired!” “After college I was a high school English teacher. I love making people laugh, but I’ve always had a desire to do something more meaningful. This gives me the opportunity to do both. It’s perfect.” #END For more information or interview requests:
"Jeff Havens is the IDEAL guest for live TV. One of the best interviews I ever booked!"
"Jeff was a wonderful guest on my show. He kept the information and laughter flowing so well that I was almost ready to offer him a job! I encourage all of my fellow broadcasters to invite Jeff Havens to your studio soon. He was outstanding!" "Jeff is funny, articulate and full of tons of great information for my audience. He takes a humorous twist to a serious topic. The interview went by way too fast. Will definitely invite Jeff back to my show." "Comic and author Jeff Havens has written an invaluable book in "How To Get Fired! " for those who want to get a job and keep it in these uncertain economic times we all live in. If you are coming into the work force as a young professional or perhaps even thinking of making a mid-life career change...pick up and read this book before checking out the classified ads for employment in your hometown newspaper." "What a great interview with Jeff! You can understand why he is not only a speaker at colleges but a motivational speaker as well. Certainly knows his subject matter and has a delightful way of presenting it. Everyone in college should read his book! And everyone out of college too - we could all use a re-fresher!" "I wanted to thank you for a great interview on Tuesday. You know what you're talking about, and have a great style while on the air. I really enjoyed our on air chat, and I would love to have you back on again." "Jeff Havens portrayed himself during our interview as a comedian and entertainer, and I found him to be articulate, fun to talk with, and his approach an Entertainer/Instructor to the working world is refreshing in an inventive way. This economy is already awash in flotsam 'market-yourself-and-keep-your-job' seminars, most quite a boring rehash of things already known. Jeff has found a niche way to convey this common-sense by showing the obvious what-not-to-do with a hilarious twist. I very much enjoyed my interview with Jeff!" "Wow! How to Get Fired! is a must read. Reverse psychology at its BEST." “Jeff Havens is an absolute delight! His presentation combines humor, wisdom, and communication skills all in one package. I found Jeff to be a perfect interview subject for my radio talk show. He is mature beyond his years, and yet able to connect with every generation. He’s the perfect blend of serious and humor. I’d like him to speak with my entire leadership team across the country.” “Dear Mr. Jeff "The Magnificent" Havens - I know it's been a few weeks, but I wanted to thank you for the book. I finally finished it, and it was quite entertaining - though, I'm sure, not quite as entertaining as the actual presentation. My favorite part by far was the section on workplace fashion. Many of your opinions I found particularly funny because they are so similar to mine, and are things I have been thinking for years. Thank you for being the one to finally put it in writing! I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to say 'hi' at the presentation on our campus - in my defense, I did actually take the scheduled day off of work to make sure I would be there. I was very much looking forward to it. But, the weather and the past is behind us now, and I wanted you to know that I did read your book. I was actually inspired by the few paragraphs in "What Your Employers Owe You," and drew from that during an extremely difficult discussion I had with my internship supervisors this week. So, thank you for your words of wisdom, your delightful sarcasm, and your sense of humor. It's been a refreshing and fun read these last few weeks. Hope all is well and that you enjoyed your time in Denver!” Want to interview Jeff? For an immediate response, please contact:
